Guana River
Guana River is a 2,600-acre coastal reserve located on a barrier island midway between St. Augustine and Jacksonville, Florida on State Highway A1A and is part of the Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve. Hiking and biking are popular along the more than nine miles of nature trails and old service roads that wind through the hammock. Known for trout and flounder fishing, kayaking or canoeing and bird watching are also popular activities. There have been over 230 bird species recorded at the Reserve. The Guana River Park is officially designated as part of Florida’s Statewide System of Greenways and Trails.
There are three paved beach parking lots at Guana River on the west side of A1A with port-a-let toilets. There are walkovers to A1A and over the beach dunes that will lead you to a beautiful white sand beach. The beach at Guana River has no lifeguards. The South beach parking lot is wheelchair accessible. No dogs, horses or pets of any kind allowed on the beach. There are no overnight camping facilities or developed picnic areas.
- The Guana Dam Use Area (Main Entrance) is open for fishing activities from 4:00 am until 11:00 pm.
- Trail hours and the beach access parking areas along A1A are open 8:00 am until sunset.
